Types of Mining

In Minecraft, mining is an essential thing to do. You can get many ores and blocks that you need to beat the game and to help with amour and weapons.

There are many types of mining techniques. This post will talk about the two common ones. Caving and Branch mining.

Caving is basically just finding a cave and mining for ores. Finding a cave can be difficult, but the best strategy is to mine into stone and create a mining site. Dig down and deep, but make sure you can get back up. Mine until you hit a cave ceiling.

Cave

Venture on in the cave, but make sure you are prepared (see Resources to Bring Into a Cave), by bringing lots of food and weapons and pickaxes.

Branch Mining is separate pathways of mined area, off a main area/pathway, to cover more ground.

Branch mining

You can get a lot of ores out of it, but you use your tools quickly. Make sure you are prepared to start mining by bringing lots of pickaxes before you start, though you could always go and get more. (see How to Find Diamonds)

Tips:

  • Always place torches (especially in a cave) to light the way, and to stop mobs from spawning.
  • Always bring a sword and a bow and arrows when going into a cave.
  • Always bring extra tools (pickaxes) so when they break you can keep mining.
  • Bring a clock to tell when it is day or night.
  • Bring food into caves.
